The Atavachron mailing lists (and later, the Web server) were created when I realized that with the advent of Internet technology, there was no longer a reason for me to miss out on yet another live Holdsworth performance. Through various musical mailing list resources, I soon discovered that I was not the only one who wanted information on Allan's touring itineraries, album release dates, etc., so on October 31st, 1991, Atavachron went "on the air." As of February, 1996, there were approximately 505 subscribers to the Atavachron mailing list, and the Atavachron Web server transfers an average of 11Mb of data daily. What else is there to tell? Well, I don't want to bore you with the mundane details... but since you're here, you must be a little curious. Heh. Work: I serve as ADdimension's VP of Research and Development, and as such am charged with HTML development, graphics design, looking into what works and what doesn't work on the WWW, planning marketing strategies, and as Adam Levin so succinctly put it, being "the master of obscure tricky things." Other tidbits, like hobbies and stuff Music: In brief, I'm a die-hard rocker who loves distorted guitars (whee!), but finds an alarming number of recent purchases to fit comfortably into the jazz pigeonhole -- a lot of it without a trace of guitar, even! I mostly have the folks at Allmusic (also check out the Un-Official Allmusic Home Page maintained by Rev. "Bob" Bob Crispen) to thank for that. In the meantime, if you'd like to take a look at a few tunes you might hear if you came to visit, feel free (but be forewarned -- there are 16 thumbnail GIFs there, so you might want to turn image loading off!). Due to a lack of time (and money) in 1995, I only increased my CD collection by a very few (less then 6) CDs... so if you know of anything that was released in 1995 that might tickle my tympanic membranes, feel free to write me. As for playing/recording music, I do a little of that, but I've become such a perfectionist that I've managed to turn the simplest four-track cassette demo sessions into some kind of labor-intensive torture. I especially hate trying to talk my drum machine -- an Alesis SR-16 -- into doing something resembling a natural drumbeat, but fortunately I have several friends who are drummers, and they've been a big help. Lately, I just pick up the guitar and crank up the amp until the proper degree of stress-reduction is achieved (the true value of three-chord rock revealed!). I also double as a music activist in my spare time. I seem to be getting more recognition for my anti-Atlantic Records/Time-Warner boycott than for anything else... why fight it? If Atlantic hasn't filed suit by now, they must realize that even they are unable to do away with all the evidence of wrongdoing! Sports: No thanks. Don't ask me what the current standings are in anything -- I don't know. Would darts count? I love darts. Computing: My computer at home is a Macintosh IIsi, where I used to do most of my Atavachronization, but these days I am on the road a lot, and end up using various PCs and the company's Powerbook 520c. I'm not afraid of Unix, btw, and while anyone has a right to be afraid of DOS/Windows, I usually do okay with that stuff, too. I have more than 10 years of experience using computers, and the Macintosh is just the latest thing I've picked up. I think this was what I was waiting for. :) Family: Sadly, none to speak of, other than my brother Steve. I used to have a dog, Jack, but I kept putting off the neutering (hey, it's a GUY thang), and sure enough, he left home in August and is now M.I.A. I miss the little guy.
Jack, approx. 8 months oldFor you real dawg lovers out there, here's Jack's self-portrait (GIF; 77Kb) (I have a sub-title for this one: Here Comes The Tongue -- apologies to George Harrison). Well, that's all I have for now. I hope you enjoy the Atavachron WWW materials, and as always, keep those suggestions coming !
