Blooming Azalea

This azalea was originally purchased late in the fall of 1990 during a fall nursery plant sale at Wal-Mart. It is a small leafed azalea, but I'm not sure if it is a Satsuki or maybe one other small leafed variety like a Kuzumi. The surface roots are very strong and grip the ground to the point that the roots are more vertically inclined than horizontal. This presents a small problem as far as design and composition, but what I'm doing to take advantage of the strong roots is training the azalea over a rock that has a small pinnacle. Thus the roots can fit over the pinnacle and then start forming around the remainder of the rock
