-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Moderator's note: We're Back! (or at least I *think* we're back...
some of us are definitely back, but the ones that aren't should be
shortly, if it doesn't rain) :) Yes folks, after more than a month
of uncertainty, it appears our first-ever honest-to-goodness Internet
connection is up and running, and Atavachron has been moved to its new
home on msuacad.morehead-st.edu . Due to some last-minute networking

problems, it is still possible that any mail you send here might
bounce back, but I've been assured that it's highly unlikely at this
late date. But it you *do* get bounced mail, send a copy of it to:

  al919@yfn.ysu.edu

... and it will get forwarded to the list.

  NOW... what's new?

Atavachron now is running on the Boston University List Server software
(a/k/a UNIX Listserv) Release 5.31, by Anastasios Kotsikonas. From now
on, all ADMINISTRATIVE requests can be processed by sending electronic
  mail (without a subject) to:

  listserv@msuacad.morehead-st.edu

A complete list of recognized requests can be gotten by sending e-mail
to the above address with the word "help" as the sole text of the
  message.

One option you may wish to immediately explore might be the new
DIRECT MAIL option. You might notice that this digest was actually
  sent from the address "atavachron-digest@msuacad.morehead-st.edu";
since everyone currently subscribed is accustomed to receiving
Atavachron as a digest, this is how I set up the default distribution
option for all existing subscribers. If you would prefer to receive
Atavachron as DIRECT MAIL, send the following as the sole text in
an e-mail message (again, with no subject)
  to listserv@msuacad.morehead-st.edu:

  unsubscribe atavachron-digest
  subscribe atavachron Your Name

(you may also wish to include the following to insure that you receive
  copies of your own postings:)

  set atavachron mail ack

NOTE that failing to subscribe from the DIGEST version will result
  in your receiving BOTH versions!

Mail sent to either address will be distributed to both sets of
subscribers after approval, albeit in their respective manners.

ALSO OF NOTE: David Datta has graciously allowed us to store the
Atavachron archives at his music resource FTP site at the University
of Wisconsin-Parkside (ftp.uwp.edu). For those of you unfamiliar
with Mr. Datta's excellent services, or for those of you wanting
more information regarding anonymous FTP, send the following as the
sole text in an e-mail message to listserv@msuacad.morehead-st.edu:

  info atavachron

Archives will also be offered at this site in the future (including
a planned mail-server version via the listserv).

REPORTING A PROBLEM: If your subscription is causing you headaches,
or you're getting bounced mail from the 'msuacad' address, contact me
at al919@yfn.ysu.edu and I will try to correct the situation as best
I can. Bear with me folks... it's been a rough ride these past few
weeks (and for some reason, I suspect the ride is far from over)! ;)

Without further delay, on with the show! -- JP]

I read a review of this in the German music magazine, 'Fachblatt,'
from a couple of months ago. The album overall got a quite favourable
review. Sorry to disappoint, but the only track Allan plays is an
apparently acoustic version of 'Michelle.' If there's any interest I
can post a translation of the review to the list, but it's not very
Holdsworth-centric.

PS. Great news about Holdsworth's upcoming projects! Guess we can
look forward to a lot of SHREDDING in the coming year!

I just found out that the Beatles song Allan covers in the _Come Together_
compilation is "Michelle". The search goes on...

Hi All!

I announced I would be travelling to Japan soon in a
previous Atav. Dig. about two months ago, asking who
would want a copy of the Japanese WT. I did get
several responses, but I still haven't gone to Tokyo
yet, but will do so in the next month.

So, now that all have seen a review of WT+3, who's
still interested, and who else is interested??

I am not looking for profit, like Audiophile Imports.
I would suspect the CD is $20 (US) + $2 shipping.

Once I am in Tokyo, I can email everyone the exact
cost.

Subject: Best Works, Bruford

I did not realize that the Best Works disc was a bootleg. Perhaps this was
discussed before I joined this list? A question, though: Why aren't the
record companies that issued the original (legit) copies of these tracks going
after the company that issued Best Works? I would think that they would be at
least as pissed off (if not more so) than Allan, and probably have a better
chance of getting results.

On another subject, I'm really excited to hear that Allan is planning to work
with Bill Bruford again; One Of A Kind remains one of my favorite recordings
of all time. I thought I remember reading somewhere, though, that Allan was
not particularly happy with his previous association with Bruford; has he had
a change of heart?
